Snapchat is quite popular with many people, mainly because of how quickly that information gets on and off of it regularly. You don’t have to save the things that you do on the app and, because of that, you may be looking to use it as a way to share about your day without loading your phone up with tons and tons of pictures on a daily basis.

But, as with anything else in the world of technology, there are a lot of questions that need to be considered and answered before we go out of our way to use these technologies for ourselves. The biggest question is regarding privacy – is Snapchat something that seems to be hindering the privacy that we hold so near and dear to ourselves? Or is it just harmless fun that we don’t need to worry about too much?
Does It Hinder the Privacy of Teens?
We all know that teens absolutely love everything that comes with Snapchat. But, is it something that hinders their privacy and, ultimately, makes it unsafe for them to be out and about and sharing their days? With features like the Snap Map, it could end up being a major problem for those of us who are trying to ensure that our teens are going to be safe on their devices. If other people can spot our teens’ locations and figure out where they are at any time, it may make us nervous.
On the flip side, it could be a good thing for us as parents, because it will allow us to keep an eye on things as well. You’d have to be connected to their Snapchat to do this, though – and that’s likely not something that your teen is going to be willing to do. You will, likely, be better off just turning that feature off so that you can ensure that they aren’t going to be spotted by people who don’t have their best in mind.
Does it Hinder Privacy in Relationships?
Is snap chatting considered cheating? The point of the matter is this – it all depends. If you are someone that is just sending Snaps innocently to male friends without anything that is sexual or leading them on, then no. It’s just like any other form of communication, it is just showing your day and your life through the pictures and such that you decide to take. The problem can come into play when you’re using it for other purposes, like trying to get a hookup or whatever. In those cases, then you may want to make sure that you get a good idea of what you’re doing and keep your boundaries up.
In any case, it only hinders your privacy if you choose to allow it to do so. While that may seem like an odd answer, the fact of the matter is, that’s really the only way to answer it – Snapchat is as private or public as you want to make it.
